The Egg is covered with a lattice cut that acts as background for the wreath cut that frames the lens of the egg, but the lattice cut itself is the frame for the large Romanov double headed eagle that gives the egg its name. Look through the lens and you are looking down a proscenium arch at a magnificently executed Romanov eagle. This handsome objét d'art stands on a pedestal base of antiqued gold pewter that repeats both the wreath theme and the Romanov double headed eagle. Made and engraved by hand in St. Petersburg.
