The Imperial Danish Palace Egg

For members of the Collectors Society only, this miniature of the Imperial Danish Palace Egg is an exquisitely done piece that stands 3.5 inch high in the pedestal base.  The Egg itself is 2.25 inches in height.  This miniature beauty is a faithful replica of the parent Imperial Egg done in the identical 12 panels divided by gold laurel leaf braiding and capped by multiple graduated circles of laurel leaves with a large Austrian Crystal at the very apex of the Egg.  The pedestal base is formed from braided laurel leaves rising to a gold cupped holder in which the Egg rests.  Inside the Egg, on a 24 karat gold plinth, sits a 2 panel screen holding photographs of the Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna’s favorite residences both in Denmark and Russia. The original Imperial Egg had miniature water color paintings on porcelain of her favorite homes one of which was the then Imperial Yacht Tsarevna.

This Egg was presented by Tsar Alexander III to his wife, Empress Maria Fedorovna for Easter 1890.  Nicholas II’s mother was a Danish Princess until her marriage to Tsar Alexander III.  She was rescued from Russia in the early part of the Revolution by a British Warship and lived for a number of years in England where her sister was then  Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VII of England. Some years after that she returned to Denmark and lived out her life at Hvidore, a seaside estate near Copenhagen. It was there that she died in 1928.
