One of several Imperial Presentation
Boxes that Fabergé made over the years
for Tsar Nicholas. This startlingly beautiful
piece was obviously meant for a family member
because of the lavishness of its design and
meant for Nicholas to present because it bears
his portrait. To whom it was given is not known.
The original box was made of gold set with diamonds.
The reproduction is in silver gilt, with a translucent
ivory ground of sunburst enamel guilloché
bearing an overlay of gold laurel swags terminating
in ribbon bows, large stones punctuating these
and slightly smaller Austrian crystals replacing
the 26 diamonds framing the portrait of Nicholas.
The oval frame is surmounted with an Imperial
Crown set with 2 large crystals and several
smaller ones. The four corners of the box are
brilliant strawberry enamel, each set with a
large Austrian crystal on a gold ribbon setting.
The box is lined in velvet. Workmaster: Michael
Perchin, 1890.
Our price:$550.00.
