A one inch high replica of the Imperial Danish Palace
Egg that was given by Tsar Alexander III to
his wife, Empress Maria Fedorovna, for Easter
1890. The original Egg had a series of ten
miniature paintings of Danish Palaces and yachts
that the Empress enjoyed in her early life
in Denmark. This tiny reproduction has, instead,
a pair of love doves sitting on the plinth.
As with the original, the Egg is done in enamel
guilloché, and
replacing the gemstones the gold work on the
Egg has been chased to give the effect of the
stones. At the base of the Egg there is a ruby
red cabochon stone and 6 tiny Austrian crystals,
at its
apex is the Imperial Crown with a tiny bale
to make it wearable.
For display purposes when not being
worn, the egg sits on a base of Siberian
Jade with a pedestal
in the same rich pink enamel guilloché as
the Egg.
