On a pure white porcelain ground, a gold laurel leaf swag and wreath punctuate gold ribbing that forms a cage around the Egg symbolically protecting the diamond studded crown of Louis XIV, which is the surprise. The ribbing has minute gold bas relief dots covering it which are meant to imply diamond studding. Royal Blue bands the bottom and caps the apex of the Egg. The plinth and crown are 24 karat gold plated sterling silver. The Romanov Double Headed Eagle is the clasp.
