From 1890 to 1891 Nicholas, then heir to the throne, made a world tour aboard the sailing ship Pamiat Azova, the surprise in this Egg. The vessel is done in minute detail including rigging & alternative power smoke stacks, and includes many of the details seen on the deck of such a vessel. The ship is 24 karat gold plate over sterling silver, as is the plinth it rests on. The plinth is impressed Faberge, hallmarked and numbered. The clasp is the Imperial Double Eagle.
