Loosely modeled after the Danish
Palace Egg, the exterior of this Egg is done
in relief indicating the stones that stud the
original Egg. The enamel guilloché ground
of the original is worked here using relief
painting, patterning itself after the repeated
cross pattern filling each fillet. The Egg
opens to reveal the Gatchina Palace in miniature,
made of sterling silver plated in 24 karat
gold. The palace has the most minute detail,
down to the flag that flew over it. The palace
was the favorite winter residence of The
Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna who was a Danish
princess prior to her marriage to Tsar Alexander
III. The clasp is the Romanov
Double Eagle.
Our price $450.00.
